NORTHON & STOCKTON 0-6 MORPETH TOWN

Morpeth Town returned to winning ways thanks to a brace apiece from Steven Anderson and SeanTaylor, with a goal from Ben Sayer and an own goal rounding off the scoring as the Highwaymen picked up three points against relegation threatened Norton & Stockton Ancients on Saturday.

Town were coming off the back of a disappointing week, with defeats to Newton Aycliffe and West Allotment Celtic causing serious damage to the clubs title challenge, but responded in prolific fashion.

Nick Gray made seven changes to the side that suffered a 2-1 reverse at Whitley Park on Tuesday, and they started on the front foot,

Morpeth opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when Stephen Jackson put through his own net.

The visitors made all the running and Anderson doubled the lead on 45 minutes

Anderson did get his deserved goal on 45 minutes.

In the second half the Highwaymen turned it up a level and scored four goals in the opening quarter of an hour. Firstly, Sean Taylor dispatched a 30 yard free-kick. He doubled his tally minutes later, to make it 4-0, before Sayer broke inton the box to coolly slot home the fifth.

The sixth and final goal saw Anderson head home again; this time McAndrew the provider from the right.

Morpeth continued to dominate over the closing stages, creating several other chances, but were unable to find the net.

All in all, this was a good day at the office for the Highwaymen, who are still in contention for the EBAC Northern League title.
