Sam Allardyce believes new signing Dame N’Doye will offer something different to the Sunderland attack - and relieve some of the pressure from Jermain Defoe.

The Senegalese striker arrived on Wearside from Turkish side Trabzonspor on a loan deal that will run until the end of the season.

Dame has scored goals and we want somebody in the squad to score more goals, and I also think we need to share them about more because we can’t just rely on Jermain Defoe

Allardyce has conceded his team need to start picking up more draws, and an addition of a striker will ease the burden on the in-form Defore.

The former England international has hit the net nine times from just 18 league starts this which is more than the rest of Sunderland strike force combined.

“Dame has scored goals and we want somebody in the squad to score more goals, and I also think we need to share them about more because we can’t just rely on Jermain Defoe” said the Sunderland manager.

“I don’t think you can have enough forwards in your squad especially if they’re hungry to get on the pitch and show what you can.”

The Sunderland head coach also admitted speaking in depth to Hull City manager Steve Bruce about the striker, who scored five times in 15 appearances for Hull City last year.

Allardyce believes that experience will help no end in helping his side with their own relegation battle.

He said: “He knows the pressure and he’s felt the pressure of the Premier League.

“He delivered for Hull City and I spoke to Steve Bruce at length before bringing him in and he said he gave a terrific amount of lift for the players and scored the goals they wanted him to.”
