Teen nets on debut for county

Ponteland High School student Rebecca Hiles has been successful in her attempt to make the U16s Northumberland county girls football squad for the 2014/15 season.

The first match of the season against Cumbria recently took place and following rigorous training sessions, the talented teenager made the starting 11.

She then bagged herself a debut goal in a 5-1 win.

Rebecca is only a Year 10 student, so this is an even greater achievement given that she is competing against older and physically bigger girls.

Ponteland High headteacher Kieran McGrane said: “Rebecca has done fantastically well to even make the squad a year early, but to secure a starting place and then score on her debut just shows the kind of talent she has.”
