Town continue good form with a decent draw on their travels

Durham City 1 Morpeth Town 1 Northern League, Division One

The Highway Men travelled to Durham full of confidence after securing their place in the division with an excellent 3-1 victory over FA Carlsberg Vase finalists West Auckland Town in midweek.

The home side started strongly, with tricky winger Morris going close on three occasions, but the alert Mundy was able to save his efforts.

On the half-hour, Morpeth came close to taking the lead. Anderson’s strong run from midfield was impeded by Caris on the edge of the Durham City box and from the resulting free-kick, Chilton grazed the post.

As the half progressed, Town started to get a grip in the midfield. On 35 minutes, Lancaster made space for himself on the left and his long, diagonal ball split the home defence.

The on-rushing Anderson took a touch and calmly chipped Caris from 25 yards out to give the Highway Men a half-time lead.

Durham City regained parity on 55 minutes. Hotchkiss gained a free-kick 30 yards from goal and his strike found the back of the net via the far post.

The game now opened up and both sides had chances to regain the lead, but both goalkeepers were able to keep the score at 1-1.

Morpeth team: Mundy, Hiftle, Lancaster, Belo, Hall, Buchanan, Forster (Keenan), Fry (Taylor), Hutchinson (Henderson), Chilton, Anderson. Techflow Group Qatar man-of-the-match: Steven Anderson.
