Town draw a blank on their travels

Crook Town 2 Morpeth Town 0 Northern League, Division One

The Highway Men travelled to Crook on Saturday looking to replicate the decent win over their hosts a fortnight ago.

The first chance of the game fell to Forster on five minutes. Excellent link-up play by Town’s man-of-the-match Anderson and Swanston played him in on goal, but his fierce drive flew narrowly over the crossbar.

From the restart, Crook broke forward down the left and when the ball was played to the on-rushing Davis, he was upended in the box by Mundy.

The Morpeth stopper made amends by making a fine penalty save to deny Hodgson.

The visitors looked dangerous in attack, but the home side took the lead on 18 minutes when Hodgson threaded the ball through to Avis, who scored from close range.

Town pressed hard for the equaliser but their good approach play proved fruitless and they were undone 10 minutes from the end when Crook doubled their lead through Hodgson.
