Morpeth Town’s Wembley dream is over after they were knocked out of The FA Vase fifth round this afternoon.

The Northern League, Division One side were reduced to 10-men after Fry was sent off early on and they never recovered as hosts Eastbourne United went goal crazy to win 6-1.

McBride (two), Tate (two), Dryer and Divall scored for United, while Forster grabbed a consolation for The Highway Men, who were playing in this stage of the competition for the first time.

Goalscorer Forster had a piledriver tipped onto the bar as the visitors pushed forward. Club colleague Chilton was also denied by the woodwork when his side were 2-0 down.

But it wasn’t to be and United, who top Sussex County League Division Two, are the ones to march into the quarter-final, where they will host Ampthill Town on Saturday, March 8.

The final of The FA Vase will be played at Wembley Stadium in May.
