Ryton & Crawcrook
Morpeth Town 2
Ebac Northern League Division Two
MORPETH continued their unbeaten league run with a victory at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion.
On a hard, uneven playing surface with a strong crosswind blowing down the pitch, the visitors were attacking up the hill in the first half.
The conditions were an impediment to the Highway Men’s close passing game but Morpeth were able to utilise the flanks and create a couple of chances for Lunn and Chilton in the opening quarter of an hour.
The opening goal came on 25 minutes when a neat interchange between Dines and Fry cut open the home defence. The ball was slipped through to Lunn who timed his run from deep to perfection, drew the goalkeeper and calmly guided the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Town were now in the ascendancy, with Keenan having a free reign on the left flank. Ten minutes from half time his corner to the near post was met by Chilton, who powered his header into the top of the net to make it 2-0.
Morpeth continued to control play in the second half – with the impressive Keenan a constant threat to the home defence.
On the rare occasions that Ryton threatened they were unable to breach the composed Henderson, Tumilty, Dunn and Walmsley in the Highway Men’s defence. With Mundy putting in another assured performance, the away side recorded their sixth clean sheet of the campaign.
They are now lying fifth in the table with games in hand on most teams and are the only undefeated side in the league.
Rusty’s Taxis man-of-the-match: Andrew Keenan.
