Town trounced to keep them rooted to bottom

Guisborough Town 9 Morpeth Town 1 Northern League, Division Two

MORPETH are still in search of their first league win of the season after second-placed Guisborough produced a second-half goal blitz.

The visitors were hoping the history books would repeat themselves after their only win this season came against Guisborough in the Ernest Armstrong Cup with a 2-1 victory.

Unfortunately, it took the hosts less than a minute to take the lead when Shane Henry netted from close range. Morpeth came back strongly and Wyn Fremlin came very close to restoring parity minutes later.

Guisborough added their second on 25 minutes when David Onions tapped in after Craig Pickering denied Chris I’Anson, but the rebound fell Onions’ way.

Pickering kept up a spirited performance when denying I’Anson again only seconds after the restart.

Chris Chan then produced Morpeth’s best chance of the first half and the ball found its way in to give the Northumbrians hope.

But they suffered a massive blow when Onions netted again on the stroke of half-time.

I’Anson made it 4-1 on 50 minutes and Onions’ search for a hat-trick was fulfilled on 68 minutes with a sweet strike.

Luke Bythway then scored four late on to make it a thrashing.

Morpeth man-of-the-match: Chris Chan.
