WALLINGTON put on a five-star display at Oakford Park in a midweek match, which combined with other results, was enough to guarantee them promotion to the Premier Division.

News of Northbank’s failure to win at Gateshead meant that The Greens can’t finish any lower than second, which prompted mass celebrations.

Jordan Nellis’ seventh hat-trick of the season blew the opposition away, while Jack Palmer’s first of the season and Sam Walton’s 20th completed the rout in this fourth meeting with their Northumberland rivals. The win though was manufactured from the foundations of another clean sheet, their eighth of the season.

Now they are looking to win the league and although their hopes suffered a small setback on Saturday with a 4-1 defeat at Newcastle University, there was better news on Monday afternoon.

Wallington achieved a hard-fought 0-0 draw at second-placed Red House Farm to maintain their seven-point lead at the top.
