Keighley 13 Morpeth 25
North One East
MORPETH made it four out of four with this excellent away win against the newly-promoted Yorkshire outfit and it was no more than they richly deserved in what is proving to be an inspiring run of form.
An early score is what was needed by the Mitford Road men and this came with a Cunningham try to make it 5-0, albeit Phillips missed the extra points.
Keighley then had an opportunity of their own but squandered three points with a missed penalty.
Then with Phillips doing likewise, Morpeth increased their lead with a further try by Francis which Phillips duly converted.
The score now stood at 12-3 to Morpeth.
Richie Stephenson then took a knock with Stu Hills taking his place on the wing.
Yet Morpeth had not finished their first-half scoring with Cunningham again going over and Phillips adding the extra points to make the interval scoreline 19-3 in Morpeth’s favour.
Shortly after the interval the home side closed the gap with a further try which was not converted.
Morpeth, thanks to two further Phillips’ penalties, increased the score to 25-8.
This lead was reduced with a further consolation try for the home side.
This was another very good Morpeth win and they face big tests over the next two weeks with Wheatley Hills and Sheffield being the opposition.
Nevertheless, with confidence running high Morpeth will go into games in good heart after this very promising start to the season.
