Good display and a bonus point victory boost

Novocastrians 20 Ponteland 24 Durham & Northumberland, Division One

FORWARD dominance helped Ponteland to record a vital win in their battle to avoid the drop.

A good run and pass by Phil Mason, making his debut at fly-half, set up Will Newbigin for a try – Newbigin himself converted.

The hosts replied with a penalty and unconverted try, but following a decent move, Newbigin showed good speed to score an unconverted try to make it 12-8 to Pont at half-time.

Soon after the kick-off, attacking pressure led to an overlap and full-back Scott Anderson touched down, it was unconverted.

Novos were not finished yet and scored a converted try from an interception.

But strong forward drives led to Ponteland’s Craig Robinson scoring, converted by Newbigin. The home side scored a consolation try to make it 24-20 at full-time.
