Morpeth RFC U13s 5 Novos RFC U13s 7
IN a committed team effort, Morpeth U13s slipped to a narrow defeat against a physically-powerful Novos team.
Playing against the wind, the hosts conceded an early try to a well-executed Novos backs move, which worked the overlap on the left wing and resulted in a converted score in the corner.
This early concession prompted a strong response from Morpeth, who steeled themselves to get back in the match.
The battle of the breakdown was hard-fought by both teams with excellent rucking from the home forwards against a larger pack, giving the backs, marshalled well by Elliott Clark at fly-half, opportunities to run with the ball in centre field.
Sustained pressure, including charging runs by Callum Lamb and Adam Blower, resulted in the Morpeth try. It was scored by impressive full-back Matthew Dodds after an excellent blind-side move from an attacking scrum.
Unfortunately the resulting conversion, against a strong wind and from an acute angle, was missed.
Both sides had opportunities for another try in the second half, but both defences held firm.
Each Morpeth player did well and their man-of-the-match, sponsored by Chris Lishman Photography, was Lewis Gammer for his excellent tackling, support play and work at the breakdown to secure the ball.
