Morpeth Sunday League round-up (April 15)

ES JOHNSON CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

PEGSWOOD Ex retained the Challenge Cup with a 1-0 win over Ashington RAOB in the final at Woodhorn Lane, Ashington, on Sunday.

A goal from Ross Donnelly won a hard-fought and sometimes feisty encounter to win the season’s first silverware.

GEORGE CAVE MEMORIAL CUP

STOBSWOOD Welfare hosted Bedlington Barrington Arms in the first semi-final of the Memorial Cup. It was the Barrington who booked a final berth after goals from Sean Cowell and Callum Donohoe earned a 2-1 win.

DIVISION ONE

AMBLE Pier 81 got their title push back on track after they had suffered a 2-0 defeat in midweek at the hands of Red Row Brick Club, their only league defeat so far in Division One. They beat Woodhorn Lane with goals from Sean Taylor (two) and Ryan Douglas, which secured a 3-1 win. Richard Hall netted for Woodhorn Lane.

DIVISION TWO

ALNMOUTH Argyle had to wait for their final league game to enjoy their first win of the season, and they did so in style. They hammered Felton 13-3 with goals from Ross McKinley (four), Ross Straughan (three), James Thorpe (three), Liam Roper, Jordan Frost and Dean Willis. Matthew Fowler scored three times for Felton.

River Coquet continued their winning sequence with a 3-1 win at East Chevington. Peter Godfrey was on target for Chevington, but a brace from Jordan Roper and a strike from Brad McLellan won it for the away side.

Village Inn, Longframlington and Morpeth Riverside Lodge shared a point after a 3-3 draw.
