A PONTELAND High School student was part of the successful England U16s Victory Shield football squad.

Daniel Pybus, who is in Year 10, came on as substitute in the 1-0 win against Scotland a week last Thursday that secured the title for England.

Within school, he is part of the Junior Athletic Education Programme for Talented Athletes which provides support through access to a mentor as well as specialised tutoring on time management, goal setting and lifestyle choices.

Headteacher Kieran McGrane said: “We are all very proud of Daniel’s achievements so far and know that he will make an outstanding contribution when given the chance to represent his country.”
