Golfers set to tee off in fund-raising challenge

GOLF lovers willing to roll up their sleeves this summer and take on the UK’s biggest charity golfing challenge will have the chance to win an all inclusive seven-night stay in Cyprus.

The Four Course Classic will see teams of four sponsored to tee off at sunrise on the longest Friday of the year, June 22, to play 72 holes in just 16 hours covering 15 miles of fairways.

The Northumberland section includes Longhirst Hall Golf Club, as well as Alnwick Castle Golf Club, Bedlingtonshire Golf Club and The Northumberland Golf Club. Matfen Hall is one of the four clubs involved in the Tynedale section.

The most successful fundraising team during the golf marathon in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign will be whisked off to Paphos for a week’s holiday at the four-star Louis Ledra Beach Hotel, courtesy of Thomson Holidays, to soak up the sun across five local courses – or to recover from their ordeal by the pool. Their clubs will join them free.

A host of other prizes are up for grabs across a range of categories, including the highest team Stableford score across four rounds and most entertaining individual photo of the day, including golf breaks, kit and merchandise signed by golfing legend Sir Nick Faldo.

Hundreds of prestigious golf courses across the UK have signed up to support the challenge, offering free tee times to participants. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign also pledges to get in touch with any courses golfers want to play which are not currently signed up to the scheme.

The event is set to raise £50,000 towards research into the first treatment for muscular dystrophy and related conditions and to support the 70,000 children and adults in the UK who are affected.

To sign up your team and select your chosen courses, call 02078 034824 or visit www.fourcourseclassic.co.uk

For just a £25 registration fee, each player will receive their four complimentary tee times and polo shirt, and full fund-raising support to help raise the minimum sponsorship amount (£250).
