Lightning off to a scorcher
THE Northumberland Lightning American Football team recently held its first official practice.
With turnout expected to be around 10, officials were pleased when 18 players turned up, with 16 newcomers to the game who were eager to learn. Training was led by Eric Walker, a coach with vast playing experience in the US, Germany and the UK.
Lightning President Stuart Dick said: “The turnout for the practice was encouraging, but the player appeal must continue. We are eager to involve everyone who loves the game to get involved in the side, whether it be as a player, coach, or team official.
“As of right now the committee is fully formed, but we are still looking for a Head Coach, an O-Coordinator and multiple position coaches as well as a Youth Development Officer and a General Manager to oversee the whole organisation.
“We have also had great interest in the women’s team, with 10 members interested in playing the game. We are eager to have a full women’s team set-up.
“Right now the main focus is players and opportunities for sponsorship. Please get in touch if you wish to get involved.”
