Enter early to avoid disappointment

ORGANISERS of Burgham Horse Trials are urging early entries from Eventers for next month’s equestrian showcase, which they expect to be over-subscribed.

Entries opened last Saturday and have been flooding in, while the first batch of cut-price advance spectator tickets were snapped up within hours of going on sale on the event website on Monday.

Work is about to start on preparation of the three kilometre undulating course, being designed and built by Peter Wilson, which will see some new feature fences alongside water jumps and water crossings to challenge competitors in BE90, BE100 and Novice classes.

There will once again be an attractive £12,000 prize fund for the Elite British Show jumping highlight, the Burgham Classic Grand Prix, which was won last year by Louise Whitaker and is sure to attract top riders from across the UK.

Other attractions at the event, which runs from Friday, July 13, to Sunday, July 15, will include the Burghley Dubarry Young Event Horse competition, Hound Parade, a dog show and a sizeable retail village.

Organiser David Nicholson said: “You just have to read the posts on our Facebook page and website forum to see the excitement and anticipation growing for next month’s event.

“The huge success of both last July’s event and our inaugural Advanced Event held in March has given us a real springboard – the equestrian world now knows we will put on a great show.

“Given the volume of entries for the eventing in the first few days since they opened I am confident we will be oversubscribed and have to go to ballot.

“So the message is really that Eventers need to get their entry in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

A link to the Burgham page on the British Eventing website and the schedules and entry forms for the British Show jumping and Burghley Dubarry Young Event Horse competitions can be found on the event website at www.burghamhorsetrials.co.uk along with cut price advance entry tickets, accommodation and stabling.

Trade stand applications are also still open for both events and are available by emailing david@burghamhorsetrials.co.uk or via the website.
