Pegasus hosts major event

THE Pegasus Centre in Tranwell has been selected to host a qualifying event for riders hoping to compete in the RDA National Para Dressage Championships.

On Wednesday, riders with disabilities from across the North East and Cumbria will convene to take part in a number of competitions and they will aim to impress the judges sufficiently to qualify for the UK contest in Gloucestershire this July.

The riders will include seven based at the Pegasus Centre, as well as riders from the Washington Riding Centre in Durham and from further afield.

One of those competing will be Gayle Bloomfield, who earlier this year became national champion in the Restricted Grade 2 Class at the Winter National Championships on her horse Bartie.

Centre Manager Martin Peagam said: “We are delighted to once again be hosting this important event and our aim will be to ensure that all those taking part have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

“It is of course particularly pleasing to everyone at the Pegasus Centre that so many of our riders are taking part in this competition. It is certainly a tribute to the commitment and dedication shown by the riders and to the wonderful support they receive from staff and volunteers.”

Each week more than 100 people with disabilities, young and old, from throughout the region take part in riding lessons, competitions and other activities at the facility.
