Region’s riders cycle off with the spoils

RIDERS from across the region were formally honoured for their success at the annual Barnesbury Cycling Club awards in The Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn.

Among those to receive trophies or plaques were Chris Aspey from Morpeth, Clive Horton from Nedderton and Ann Hodgson from Pegswood.

The full list of winners is as follows:

Under 12 Summer Cyclo X (West Bedlington Parish Council Cup): Pete Watson; Under 16 Cyclo X plaque: Chris Aspey.

First U16 girl (receives the ‘Ditto’ prize): Megan Rae; First U16 boy (‘Ditto’ prize) and Junior 10-mile champion (Belle Rankin Trophy): Jack Watson; Barnesbury Cyclo X champion: Geoff Turner; Open 25-mile time trial for the Jack Burney Cup (handicap race): Ian Bryan; Best team in the Hilly 21-mile time trial (Paul Wildsmith Trophy): Teasdale CC.

Barnesbury Road Race champion (Billy Calow Trophy): Clive Horton; Hill Climb champion (Hill Climb Trophy): Andrew Hale.

Barnesbury First Lady Hill Climb medal: Ann Hodgson; Barnesbury best all rounder (Jack Adams Trophy) and Novice champion (Stan Sadler Trophy): Ian Bryan; Barnesbury Vets 10-mile champion: Peter Manners; Vets Bar (Joe Jones Cup): James Allen.

Lifetime membership awards for over 50 years service to the club: Eric Potts, Alan Wilson, Trevor Leightley and Robin and Pat Nichol.
