Starter’s orders

AN exciting afternoon of horse racing is in prospect for all the family at the Tranwell course on Saturday.

This year’s Morpeth Point-to-Point has received 93 entries for the seven-race card, which will be followed by a Pony Race to showcase the jockeys of the future.

Like 12 months ago, young people from the Stepney Bank Stables project in Newcastle will be attending and they will choose the Best Turned Out Horse in each race.

The students, who come from deprived backgrounds, will also get to talk with some of the horse trainers to understand how they prepare their thoroughbreds for competition.

Entry is £10 per person, which includes a race card. Children under 12 go free. The starter’s flag will drop for the first race at 1pm.
