Young riders dress-age to impress at centre

A DRESSAGE event and ‘Countryside Challenge’ competition that were recently held at The Pegasus Centre in Tranwell proved to be a great success.

More than 40 riders took advantage of blue skies and bright spring sunshine to demonstrate their horse-riding abilities.

Some of those competing were hoping to not only impress judges Margaret Barratt and Alys Ferguson, but also to be selected to take part in the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Regional Qualifiers which could lead to them participating in the RDA National Championships.

Centre Manager Martin Peagam said: “We have had a great day. There has been some great competition, with riders taking full advantage of the occasion to show off their skills.

“As well as our dressage competition we have also been able to hold a Countryside Challenge and this has proved particularly popular with many of our younger disabled riders.

“Contests such as these are an important part of what we do here. They allow riders to see how they are progressing and provide inspiration for our younger and less-experienced riders.”

Winners in the dressage competitions at the event included Paul Clarkson, Libby Sanderson, Caitlyn Johnstone, Robyn Rowntree, Becky Clark, Emily Dougal, Jess Southwick, Lilly Carr and Gillian McHale. The Countryside Challenge winners included Michael Benson, Caitlyn McHale, Stefan Storey, and Elizabeth Cockburn.

The Pegasus Centre, which provides riding facilities primarily aimed at people with disabilities under the auspices of the RDA, is committed to encouraging people to develop their skills and to take part in a range of contests.
