LAST year they won the County and Alnwick Cups.

Now the youngsters of Morpeth RFC’s Under 8s have added the prestigious Durham Cup to their list of honours.

The squad won all four of their preliminary round games and then faced the Northern firsts in the final.

Despite training having been badly hit this year with the adverse weather, in the sunshine down at Durham City RFC, Morpeth were a credit to the club and Northumberland – playing a skilful game of strong running and determined defence.

In what was a hard-fought match, played at a cracking pace, Morpeth were the convincing winners. With a significant number of the squad having played tag rugby from the age of five, this was their last game of this format before moving on to play a limited form of contact rugby next season.

The squad will recommence training in September and welcomes new joiners (both boys and girls). Go to the Morpeth Minis/Juniors section at www.morpethrfc.co.uk
