ANGLER Dennis Clow got the catch of the day at Morpeth Lions Club’s Annual Fishing Competition.

A total of 35 people took part in the contest, which is held at Fontburn Reservoir, while several others came and fished for pleasure and bought raffle tickets.

The windy conditions worked against a large catch, but 45 fish weighing a total of 72lbs 8oz were landed by the anglers.

As well as reeling in the heaviest fish, Mr Clow recorded the heaviest catch overall.

The other prize winners were Alan Smith, Robert Marshall, Bill Murray, Bob Hudson and Stan Eke. The junior winner was Ethan Marshall of Stobhill.

Organiser Lion Graham Tait said: “I am pleased to see Stan Eke amongst the winners. Stan has been a great supporter of the Lions and its events over several years.

“In spite of being entry number 13, he won a competition category and also a raffle prize.”

He thanked all participants and the event sponsors, which were Northumbrian Water, Frasers Angling, Outdoors Gateshead, Barbour of South Shields and the Wansbeck Angling Association. The Angling Association also helped out on the day and ensured that all those taking part in the competition adhered to the rules.
