Away-day defeat for firsts

Bedlington I (270-6) v Morpeth I (156 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A2

Morpeth fell to a derby defeat at Bedlington on Saturday.

The home side piled on the runs early on in the innings, although the visitors did restrict the middle order players.

Younger was in excellent nick and he scored 102 and the other player to make a significant total was Harnett (69) as Bedlington reached 270 for six in their 50 overs.

Morpeth were up against it when the opening pair were dismissed cheaply, but they responded well and Rick Jones (28) and John Turnbull put together a useful partnership.

Turnbull almost got the century he deserved. He was bowled by Younger for 93 (his innings included 14 fours).

The end came soon afterwards as the away side were all out for 156.
