Bikers put in a Monster effort

XAVIER Zayat and Morpeth-based SGR Racing recently headed to their home round of the British Monster Energy Motostar Championship at Knockhill Circuit, where they were joined by local sponsors Spotty Dog Signs and Print and Huntley Autos.

Qualifying day started off wet and Xavier was constantly running in the top 10 until the track dried out in the final two to three laps, where unfortunately he dropped back to 17th position.

Warm-up on race day was cut short by a catastrophic engine failure, but the team worked hard to get the bike ready for the race and thank Banks Racing for their support.

Xavier made a good start and held his 17th place before putting in some fast lap times equalling those of the top 10 riders.

Not surprisingly, he soon started to pass people and had made his way up to 13th position when the safety car came out, bunching up the field. As the safety car went in, Xavier held his position only for the race to be red flagged on the next lap.

As the result was taken back to the previous lap, he was awarded a fantastic 10th-place finish overall, and a sixth-place finish in the cup division for riders under the age of 16.

Team Manager Steve Kinghorn said: “It was fantastic to come to Knockhill and have friends and sponsors there to support us.

“To get a top 10 finish in Xavier’s first visit to Knockhill is an amazing achievement and I hope we can keep up this impressive standard for the rest of the season. Thanks to all the team for their efforts and to Xavier for a brilliant ride.”
