Blagdon Park Cricket Club is hoping to build on last year’s achievements in the forthcoming campaign.
The club, which plays in the beautiful surroundings of Blagdon Hall, will approach the 2015 season with eager anticipation after a number of significant achievements last term at both senior and junior level.
Topping the list of successes were the U18 squad, who ran out winners of the prestigious Lingarde Cup having entered the county cup competition for the first time.
Most impressive of all was the fact that the triumph included no less than three victories against sides from the North East Premier Cricket League, with Tynemouth and South Northumberland being dispatched before a thrilling victory in the final against Benwell Hill.
The club’s U15 and U13 sides also had plenty to be pleased about – with the U15s finishing a very creditable third place in their league and the U13s winning the ‘A’ division league for the second year in succession.
As is so often the case, team success breeds individual honours, with the club having players representing Northumberland at the U15, U13, U12 and U11 age groups.
Blagdon Park’s first XI finished runners-up in the Northumberland Premier League for the third season running. The first team squad included three regulars from the victorious U18 side.
In the second eleven, a mixture of experience and youth ensured that the team consolidated their previous year’s promotion to Division One, showing steady development throughout the season.
New players, both senior and junior, are always welcome at Blagdon and there are plenty of opportunities to play. Some of the junior sides are open to boys and girls.
