Whickham (124-7) v Morpeth (125-6) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League Division A2
Decent performances with bat and ball earned Morpeth a good away win on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and decided to field in a match that was reduced to 31 overs per side because of rain showers. Whickham started fairly well, but Sam Bethell made the breakthrough when he bowled Armstrong for 12.
He dismissed another batsman and after the home side started to up the run-rate, Paul Elliott and James Craigs took the key wickets of Davidson (40) and Young (32) respectively.
Elliott claimed another two scalps and Thomas Truscott bowled Ainley for a duck as Whickham finished their innings on 124 for seven.
In reply, Nick Gerber was out for three, but Morpeth took the initiative thanks to decent knocks from Paul Jackson (27), Rick Jones (27) and Chase Evans (28).
And they reached their victory target with four wickets and 19 balls to spare. Jimmy Ingram was the next highest scorer with 18.
The second XI also had a good day as they beat their Ryton counterparts at home.
The away side scored 113 for eight from their 32 overs – Ciaran Porter (3-29) and Elliott Clark (2-5 from three overs) were the pick of the home bowlers.
The hosts made light work of the run chase as they won by eight wickets with plenty of overs remaining. John Turnbull was 43 not out and fellow opener B Jones scored 37.
