Morpeth (206/8) v Benwell & Walbottle (209/2) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2

There were some good batting displays for Morpeth on Saturday, but in the end it was a comfortable victory for the league leaders.

After losing two quick wickets, the home side recovered thanks to an excellent partnership between Callum Urwin (66) and Rick Jones (38).

They lost a bit of momentum when Urwin and Jones were dismissed, but Ben Maxted gave fresh impetus to the innings with some great attacking shots.

Useful support came from Stuart Hills as Morpeth reached 206 for eight after 50 overs. Maxted finished on 67 not out off 48 balls.

However, Quarrell was in excellent nick for the visitors and he scored a magnificent 115 not out.

Brown was trapped lbw by James Craigs and Urwin ran out Bell, but Benwell & Walbottle went on to win by eight wickets.

l Ponteland batted first away to Alnmouth & Lesbury in Division A1 and they ended up on 175 for seven.

Wayne Ritzema scored 79, which included 12 fours, and John Gardner (29 not out) and James Davidson (22) also made a good contribution.

The home side reached their victory target despite three wickets for Niall Penfold and two for Gardner.
