Disappointing defeats

Morpeth I (94) v Backworth I (97-4) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A2

It was a bad weekend for both of Morpeth’s senior sides.

The first team lost the toss at home to Backworth and they were sent in to bat. Rick Jones was out for a duck and just before they got properly into their stride, Paul Jackson (11) and Adam Lawn (nine) were dismissed.

No-one else reached double figures until the lower order. Paul Elliott and James Craigs showed some resistance until they were out for 24 and 14 respectively.

Morpeth were all out for just 94, with Stubbs taking five wickets for Backworth.

Although opener Robson was dismissed cheaply when he was caught by Callum Lawn off a Sam Bethell delivery, the away side comfortably got the runs they needed. Craigs troubled the batsmen at times and he picked up three wickets.

The seconds lost by 153 runs at Burnopfield II. There were some good performances with the ball, including Stefan Thomson with figures of 4-20 off 10 overs.
