Alnmouth & Lesbury I (76-0) v Morpeth I (73 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2
MORPETH’S troubles with the bat continued as they fell to a heavy away defeat.
After the loss of Thompson, the visitors recovered well thanks to Adam Lawn (15) and Charles Anderson (24).
But once they were dismissed, wickets fell at regular intervals as no other player reached double figures. Morpeth were all out for just 73.
In reply, Alnmouth & Lesbury knocked off the runs quickly without losing a wicket. Pearson top-scored with 34 not out.
Morpeth’s Sam Bethell came away with some credit as he achieved three maidens in his six-over spell.
• The seconds also struggled when they hosted their Alnmouth & Lesbury counterparts.
The away side batted first and Morpeth made a decent start when Hinchliffe was caught by Rod Rogers off the bowling of Michael Brown for five.
But their opponents were then able to build up some decent partnerships and Robinson, in particular, was in imperious form.
The score had moved on sharply by the time Nick Craigs bowled Hutchinson for 41 and Robinson soon reached his century. He finished the innings on 163 not out.
Charlie Aviston ran out Batey for 50 as Alnmouth & Lesbury II ended their 45 overs on 294-3.
The hosts were really up against it when seven batsmen were dismissed very cheaply.
Four players dug in and made good or reasonable scores – opener Doug Turnbull (26), M Turner (23), Brown (22 not out) and Rogers (13) – but Morpeth II were eventually all out for 98.
