IT was a good weekend for three of the four senior teams in the men’s section at Morpeth Hockey Club.
The second team won 5-1 at their Longhirst base against Gateshead II and the thirds recorded an emphatic 6-0 home win over Stokesley II.
The fourth team travelled south to play a Durham/Sunderland side in the Club Development League (North) and they took the lead when Bradley Swan fired home from an acute angle.
After a good spell of pressure, the hosts equalised and both sides looked to create further chances.
Morpeth went 2-1 ahead when a delightful ball found Swan in space and he calmly took the ball into the D and slotted in his second goal.
The visitors were enjoying their best period of the game and they took advantage of it when Gordon Mockett slipped the ball to Martyn Bott.
Although his shot was well saved by the keeper, the ball fell nicely to Will McLean who smashed it into the goal.
A defensive lapse allowed Durham to get a goal back before half time, but Morpeth went 4-2 ahead with a great McLean strike from the top of the D.
Morpeth seemed to lose their way after the goal and the game became a scrappy affair, but apart from having to deal with a few short corners, they were comfortable in seeing out the remaining minutes to ensure the points were theirs.
