PONTELAND High School’s U16 netball team put in a series of good performances to become North East champions.

The regional round involved the seven qualifying teams all playing each other on the day.

Pont got off to an excellent start in their opening game, beating Central High School 13-9. They then went on to defeat English Martyrs, Polam Hall, Durham High School for Girls and concluded the day with a very convincing 12-5 win against Dame Allan’s School.

Having lost one match on the day, there was a nervous wait for the results to be announced, but the great team spirit and fabulous skill shown by the girls was rewarded as they finished in first place.

The team – made up of Millie Cassidy, Charlotte Fraser, Sophie Reay, Faye Walker, Grace Lambert, Rachel Cripwell, Rhianna Telfer, Julia Elder, Sasha Hodges, Alex Reeman and Annabel Atkinson – now proceed to the national finals, which take place on Saturday, March 15, at The Whitby High School in Cheshire.
