A business organisation’s annual fund-raising drive at Morpeth Golf Club once again produced a big total.
The emphasis of the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade’s Golf Day event is on having fun, but many of the 27 teams taking part were also aiming to win their competition.
The ladies winners were the Moette Birdies (Gay Penn, Anne Spence, Gill Taggart and Mary Tully). They won on countback after scoring the same total as the ‘Boulvevard Babes’ team.
A team from Morpeth Golf Club, consisting of Marcus Chisholm, Keith Davidson, Tommy Turnbull and Kevin Whitfield-Green, was victorious in the men’s competition.
The best dressed team was ‘Mummy Dearest’.
This year’s Golf Day raised £2,600 for the Chamber – the total included the proceeds of a prize draw with 10 items and the top prize worth £100 was donated by Rutherfords of Morpeth.
The event was formed by Geoff Proudlock more than 25 years ago and this was his last year of being its main organiser.
Member John Beynon said: “Geoff has always organised Golf Day extremely well and he has raised between £60,000 and £70,000 for the Chamber of Trade since the event started.
“We are extremely grateful to him for all the hard work he has put in over the years. He will be a very hard act to follow.”
