SC GOTHIC riders Gordon Dixon and Al MacDonald set the first club record when they took part in a two-up 18-mile cycle racing time trial.

The event, organised by the Ryton Triathlon Club, runs over an undulating course which extends from Ponteland up to Gubeon Golf Course, across to Whalton and Belsay and then returns to Ponteland.

Around 40 teams were booked in to race, which included former British road-race champion and ex-professional John Tanner and his team-mate Colin Humphrey (Sportscover Altura RT) as the scratchmen (fastest and off last).

Riders from clubs across Northumberland were joined by teams from Yorkshire, Durham and Lancashire. Riding for the new Morpeth-based cycling club, the SC Gothic duo acquitted themselves well to finish in the top 10 of the male veterans (MV) competition and they crossed the line in 29th place overall in a time of 51m15s.

The winning duo of Tanner and Humphrey set a time of 38m43s.

The club, established in December last year, is set to grow, with recent additions swelling numbers to almost 20. It is sponsored by Intersoil Ltd.
