Richard Robson-Crosby, a first year trainee professional at Ponteland Golf Club, showed nerves of steel to win the PGA North Harold Lees Trophy over the Dore and Totley course in Sheffield.
An eagle at the 519-yard ninth hoisted him into contention, but he was always trailing defending champion Andrew Richardson until the closing holes.
That’s when the Middlesbrough assistant bogeyed two of the last three for a two-under-par 70 to find himself in a play-off with Robson-Crosby. It was the 23-year-old who had the final word, a par at the first extra hole securing victory.
Leading scores: 70 Richard Robson-Crosby (Ponteland), Andrew Richardson (Middlesbrough); 71 Daniel Wardrop (Stockport); 72 Matthew Daley (Hainsworth Park), Gareth Davies (Abbeydale), Robert Calderbank (Hillsborough) James Freeman (Owston Hall), Andrew Rigby (Rudding Park Golf Academy).
