A total of 18 Morpeth Tennis Club members recently enjoyed a keenly-contested Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament.
Partners were selected by being drawn out of a hat. All pairs played every other pair, so there were nine rounds altogether.
Each round was timed and a sliding handicap was used so that all the duos had a good chance of winning some games.
The players said it was a lot of fun, though the competitive spirit was obviously there and the result was very close in the end, showing that the handicapping worked well.
Johnny Locke and his partner Janet Robinson were the winners. They narrowly beat Alan Herron and his partner Alistair Cockburn.
All the participants enjoyed a lovely lunch after the tournament in the clubhouse.
Morpeth Tennis Club is located in the sports complex at Longhirst Hall and there are six floodlit courts. There are 10 adult teams competing in various county leagues and it runs a small junior programme, with sessions taking place at venues in the town centre.
