Junior riders heading west for national finals

A TEAM of young riders will be testing themselves against the best in the country this weekend.

The Morpeth Hunt Pony Club Junior team is among those taking part in the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire.

Josie Forster, aged 10, riding Mr Measles, Lauren Robinson, 10, riding Henry, Jacob Swan, 10, riding Pip, Eloise Woods, eight, riding Lucky, and Georgia Woods, 10, riding Missy, started training once a week in an indoor arena back in February of this year and have been competing at friendly competitions since the beginning of April.

At the Area Competition, they tied for first place and just lost out to Cleveland in a run-off. However, the first three teams qualified for the next round – the Zones.

The Zone featuring Morpeth took place last month and included teams from Scotland and Northern Ireland. They performed really well and were delighted to qualify for the national finals after being narrowly beaten into third.
