Morpeth Ladies I 2 Didsbury Northern Ladies I 2 North Hockey Women’s League, Division One

MORPETH took to the pitch in sub-zero temperatures to challenge top-of-the-table Didsbury and they played their part in an entertaining draw.

The first 10 minutes saw some high tempo hockey with good connecting play by the home side’s midfield and forward line. This was rewarded when Moore offloaded the ball to Bowler in the D following a good move and the team captain, without hesitation, slipped it past the keeper.

It got even better when Moore made yet another searing run at the visitors’ defence.

Drawing the players, she dropped the ball back to O’Mahony, who was positioned perfectly to dink it into the goal.

Morpeth had chances to make it 3-0, but Didsbury came back strongly after half-time and they scored from a penalty flick before getting an equaliser from a short-corner.

The hosts pressed for a winning goal and came close when a good Hamilton shot hit the post.
