THE first team ladies of Ponteland Golf Club have retained the County Shield which they won last year against the best ladies’ teams from golf clubs around the county.

They played against Arcot Hall, Alnmouth, Bamburgh, the Bridlepath Gosforth, City of Newcastle and Morpeth.

The nominated players on the team have single figure handicaps and Ami Storey has a minus one. She has returned to Kansas University in the States to complete her Golf and Education course.

Rachel Bruce, 17, with a handicap of six, was also unavailable for the team photo.

Ponteland have won this County Shield four times in the new century and the team and the reserves have a good mix of youth and experience so are well placed to continue their winning streak. They still have a long way to go to equal the 15 successive years from 1980 that the first team were winners of this shield.
