SOME decent catches were made at Morpeth Lions Club’s Fontburn Fishing Festival.

The event was blessed with dry but cool weather and 73 anglers of all ages entered the competition.

Ted Rutherford won the Senior Section with a bag of 15lb 12oz, including the heaviest fish in the adult contest at 5lb.

Sean McCormack produced a very creditable catch totalling 9lb 13oz to take the Junior prize.

And junior angler Ethan Marshall landed a 6lb 13oz rainbow trout which was the heaviest fish of the competition – and the week.

Lions Club organiser Graham Tait said: “We really have had a brilliant day and are grateful to Northumbrian Water Ltd for allowing the use of their excellent facilities.

“I would also like to thank our generous sponsors J Barbour & Sons and Frasers Fishing Tackle of Gateshead, who supplied the prizes.

“Additionally, we are thankful that Wansbeck Angling Association has again assisted by monitoring the competition and conducting the weigh-in.

“The money raised from this event will assist Morpeth Lions Club to meet some of the many local requests for help that it receives.”
