A LOCAL player showed his talent by winning the Junior Open at Ponteland Golf Club.

Marcus Dixon received the coveted Robbie Robertson Trophy and Stewart Blair Jug at the event, sponsored by commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), after beating more than 50 other competitors from a range of areas with his score of 42 points.

The scoring system took into account the ages of the participants, who were between 10 and 21 years old.

The 16-year-old champion said: “I’m really proud to have won this tournament, especially on my home turf.

“I’m hoping to continue the progress I’ve made this year as a golfer and am very grateful to everyone connected with the club for their commitment to junior golf.”

The Junior Open at Ponteland Golf Club has taken place for the last six years. It has a handicap limit of 36 for girls and 28 for boys.

Darron Barker, Director and Head of Office at LSH in Newcastle, said: “We would like to extend our congratulations to Marcus for his fine performance on the day.

“We are delighted to have sponsored the Ponteland Golf Club Junior Open for the fourth year running.

“It’s very rewarding to be able to support and encourage junior golf and we hope to continue our association with this event for many years to come.”
