Warenford (165-8) v Mitford (153 all out) Alnwick and District Cricket League, Vice President’s Cup Final

MITFORD narrowly missed out on silverware as they finished a dozen runs short.

They got off to a good start after opponents Warenford won the toss and decided to bat first when Kieran Little bowled Brian Thompson for four.

Patterson was next man out when he was caught by Mark Parrish off the bowling of Nick Gaynor and more wickets were taken by Matthew Ellinor (two), David Wigham and Matthew Lees to leave Warenford in trouble.

But Kevin Thompson was in good nick as he stayed solid and then played some attacking shots to take his side past 100.

He was threatening to make a century of his own until he missed an Ellinor delivery and was stumped by Jonny Lees for 65.

Ellinor got a deserved four-wicket haul when he caught and bowled Alan Sinton, although Warenford’s tail got some vital runs as they finished on 165 for eight from their 40 overs.

Mitford suffered an early blow when opener Alex Davies was out for a duck.

Mark Parrish and Terry Dunn got the team up and running, but frustratingly they were dismissed for 15 and 14 respectively.

Ellinor aimed to put in a great all-round performance and he was looking set for a big score until he was trapped LBW on 22.

When more wickets fell it looked all over for Mitford, however Matthew Lees had other ideas and he attacked the Warenford bowlers.

Unfortunately, he was bowled by Brian Thompson for 37 and when Gaynor was dismissed LBW Mitford were all out for 153.
