PONTELAND High School’s U14 netball team will be competing on the national stage after a successful day at a North East event.
The players performed brilliantly to post a second place finish, which meant they qualified for the next stage, in the regional championships at Sport Central, Northumbria University.
All games were hard-fought, but Pont won five of their seven matches. The game against Durham High was particularly nail-biting, as they were three goals down and looking very tired.
However, they stuck in to fight back to level pegging (8-8). As the final buzzer went, a penalty shot was awarded to Ponteland, allowing Faye Walker to score the winning goal.
PE teacher Julie Chisholm said: “The girls were outstanding. They really played as a team and displayed a never-say-die attitude.
“I am very proud of them.”
The national championships will take place on Saturday, March 16, in Basildon, Essex.
The other players in the U14 squad are as follows: Karly White, Sophie Williamson, Rachel Cripwell, Catherine Young, Sarah Hamilton, Sophie Wainwright, Millie Cassidy and Grace Bittle.
