Ponteland I (209) v Percy Main I (172) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A1

PONTELAND continued their good start to the season with a 37-run victory over Percy Main.

The hosts batted first and suffered an early blow when Wayne Ritzema was caught for just nine runs, although they responded well.

The match turned in Percy Main’s favour when Matthew Hynd (22), Stuart Taylor and Tom Seymour were all dismissed in the space of a few overs.

But the Pont middle-order stayed strong before playing some aggressive shots to reclaim the initiative.

Paul Elliott (58) made his first half-century for the club and Will Urwin made a useful knock of 36. Paul Lindsay’s quickfire innings of 23 included two sixes.

Ponteland were eventually bowled out for 209. Stewart and Morgan picked up three wickets each for the visitors.

Percy Main had only scored two runs in reply when Vickerman edged a Duncan McGregor delivery to wicketkeeper Ritzema.

Soon afterwards, the same bowler took the wicket of Ashdown.

Carr was then caught by Urwin off the bowling of Elliott, but Morgan and Stewart held firm and took the score up to 100.

The key wicket of Morgan (lbw, 51) was taken by Mark Turnbull and McGregor removed Stewart for 29 as well as Curtis to finish with four wickets.

Turnbull took two further wickets, Elliott got another and Seymour chipped in with one, as the away side were bowled out for 172.

The win moves Ponteland up to third in the table.
