Pont move up to fourth

Consett I (205 all out) v Ponteland I (208-2)

An outstanding opening partnership between Wayne Ritzema and Ed Common helped Ponteland to an important away victory.

A career best with the ball of 6-45 for David Waters was also crucial as Pont moved up to fourth in the table.

The visitors started well as Consett’s opening batsmen were both dismissed by Iftikhar Fazal, but Breese upped the run rate and soon reached his half century.

He was eventually caught off the bowling of Waters for 113 and Waters also stopped Forster (29) and Chapman (19) from building on their good starts.

Ritzema and Common took one wicket each as the home side were all out for 205. The pair were then brilliant with the bat and Ritzema in particular played some fantastic attacking shots to the boundary.

The score reached 181 when Common was dismissed for 62. Although another wicket was lost, Ritzema (120 not out) and Paul Lindsay (eight not out) saw Ponteland home.
