Pont stay put as rivals go up

Greenside (187-4) v Ponteland (186-7) Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, Division A2

AN outstanding batting display from a Greenside batsman was the difference between the two teams on Saturday.

Ponteland were in first and they lost Hitchcock early on, but the visitors recovered thanks to a decent innings from Ritzema (66) and support from Wright (19), Taylor (16) and Common (19).

Appleby made a useful 39 not out as Ponteland finished their 50 overs on 186 for seven.

Pont were in the driving seat when they took the first four Greenside wickets fairly quickly – two each for Turnbull and Gardiner.

But Fellowes was in some fantastic form and he soon reached his half century.

He ended up 101 not out, with support from Penney (38 not out), as the home side won by six wickets.

The result means Ponteland will play in the A2 division next season as Consett were promoted in second place.
