PARTICIPANTS in an annual charity swimming event received their share of more than £3,760 raised at a reception in the Town Hall.

Morpeth Lions Club’s LionSwim at the Riverside Leisure Centre involves teams who swim for 55 minutes and collect sponsorship funds for their organisations or charities.

The reception was one of the final civic duties for former Mayor Ken Brown.

He said: “It is a great pleasure seeing so many people of all ages taking part in this happy event. I know the money you have raised will help your organisations as they make a valuable contribution to the community.

“Having witnessed last year’s enthusiasm I was encouraged to enter a Town Council team this year and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the water.”

“I would also like to thank Morpeth Lions Club for organising the event.”

In response, organising Lion President Chris Offord thanked the Mayor for hosting the presentation evening and supporting the Lions Club on many occasions.

He also expressed the club’s gratitude to staff at the Riverside Leisure Centre for their assistance and Lion Les Brindley for all the work involved in organising the LionSwim.
