Poor batting stumps Mitford

Mitford Marauders (61 all out) Tillside Tomahawks (99-8) Alnwick and District Cricket, League T20 Competition, Group One

MITFORD were knocked out of this year’s Twenty20 tournament after a poor batting performance.

The match went ahead despite the damp conditions and the visitors batted first. Kieran Little and Kieran Mole took early wickets but Tillside’s Law Atkinson played himself in and brought the total past 50.

Richard Brown (2-25) had a purple patch and Ronan Atkinson was caught by Jack Taylor off the bowling of Terry Dunn, but Moscrop (14) put on a useful partnership with Law Atkinson (42 not out) before he found the safe hands of Raj Lodhl from a Colin Crowe delivery.

Little returned to take his third wicket as Tillside finished their 20 overs on 99-8.

In reply, Mitford got off to a solid start but it quickly went downhill once openers Crowe and Dunn were dismissed for seven and nine respectively.

Little offered some resistance as he finished 15 not out, but none of the other batsmen could reach double figures as the home side were all out for just 61.

Law Atkinson rubber-stamped his man-of-the-match award with four wickets.

• The heavy overnight rain meant games were abandoned on Saturday for Morpeth, Ponteland, Ulgham and Blagdon Park Cricket Clubs.
