Ponteland v Alnwick Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2
RAIN prevented an exciting finish in this low-scoring match.
Although Alnwick were bowled out for just 92, Ponteland’s batsmen also found it hard to make runs on the wicket and the home side were 48 for five when play was suspended.
The visitors made a decent start to their innings until Craig Moffat took the wickets of the two openers – Brewis was caught by Matt Darwood for 16 and Stewart (18) nicked one to Dan Wright.
Moffat also bowled Guy for a duck and then Howard Wright made his first breakthrough when he trapped Matthewson LBW.
Howard Wright continued to cause the Alnwick batsmen plenty of problems and he took a deserved six-wicket haul.
James Ealey also took a wicket to leave O’Hara stranded on 11 not out.
But Ponteland struggled in reply as Dan Wright, Darwood and Tom Seymour were all dismissed cheaply.
Wayne Ritzema (26) and Ealey (10) got the home side back into the match and when they were out it was set to be a close finish until the rain arrived.
