IAN Raybon, riding for the Morpeth-based SGR Racing Honda, raced to a superb fifth place finish in difficult conditions at the seventh round of the Sunoco British 125 GP Championship at Oulton Park.
The Manx rider worked well with the team over the weekend by improving the bike and making it feel more like his own machine.
He qualified in 18th position due to a couple of tumbles during the session, picking up a minor knee injury too.
Despite this he kept his head and rode a very mature race in difficult wet conditions, coming over the line in an impressive fifth place.
Raybon said: “That was good although I can’t feel my knee.
“I’ve got to say thanks to my dad and the team for all their hard work this weekend.”
I’ve had a lot of support this weekend which I appreciate.”
Team Manager Stephen Kinghorn said: “That was fantastic, a brilliant result. Ian was very mature and kept his head in these difficult conditions. He made no mistakes at all.
“The team effort was second to none, Martyn and Bassy did a great job on the bike, their knowledge and experience is really helping. The team is heading in the right direction and I’m over the moon with how well Ian is doing.”
• South Shields rider Josh Corner will be joining SGR Racing 125 team for the next round of the British Championship.
The talented young rider spent some with the team at Oulton Park, he liked what he saw and joined up.
Mr Kinghorn said: “It’s great to now have a two man team and I’m thrilled to have Josh on board. He is a good rider and has bonded well with the team.”
